Streatham Common is a large open space located on the southern edge of Streatham in South London. What most people don’t know is that while half of it (the part on the edge of the High road) is mostly mowed grass, the eastern side of it is mostly woodland and it was designated a Local Nature Reserve. After the First World War Streatham developed as a location for entertainment, with the Streatham Hill Theatre, three cinemas, the Locarno ballroom and Streatham Ice Rink all adding to its reputation as "the West End of South London".
