The Parole Division supervises offenders released from prison who are serving out their sentences in Texas communities. Most federal inmates released today do not receive parole; instead, they serve a term of “supervised release.” While it functions similarly—with a supervising officer and conditions—it's part of the original sentence imposed by the judge, not a discretionary grant of early release by a parole board.
