Islam Makhachev Vs JDM: Superfight Rumors Heat Up As UFC Targets Welterweight Clash

Speculation surrounding a massive cross-division matchup between lightweight champion Islam Makhachev and top welterweight contender Jack Della Maddalena (JDM) has reached a fever pitch in August 2026. As Makhachev continues his quest for two-division glory, UFC matchmakers are evaluating a potential main event collision that promises to pit pound-for-pound elite grappling against brutal, high-volume boxing.

While contract negotiations remain tightly guarded, inside sources confirm that dialogue between both camps has intensified following recent dominant performances by both fighters in mid-2026.

Clash of Styles: Sambo Dominance Meets Australian Striking Power

The prospective showdown between Makhachev and JDM represents one of the most compelling stylistic puzzles in modern mixed martial arts. Makhachev has terrorized the 155-pound division with a suffocating blend of Dagestani chain wrestling, seamless submissions, and vastly improved counter-striking. A move to 170 pounds allows him to chase elite double-champion status without the severe weight cut.

On the other side, Perth's Jack Della Maddalena has emerged as one of the most dangerous strikers in the welterweight division. Known for his body shots, continuous combination punching, and underrated scramble ability, JDM poses a unique threat to offensive grapplers.

• The Takedown Factor: Makhachev averages high-efficiency takedowns per 15 minutes, but JDM's turnover defense and wall-walking have repeatedly denied high-level wrestlers.
• Striking Dynamics: Makhachev possesses a southpaw kickboxing game designed to control distance, whereas JDM thrives in close-quarters exchanges and pocket boxing.
• Cardio & Pace: Both fighters have proven 25-minute championship cardio, making a late-round finish high on the danger scale for both sides.

How to Watch and Stream the Potential UFC Blockbuster Live

When officially finalized, this fight will serve as a major UFC Pay-Per-View (PPV) main event, distributed globally across primary sports streaming networks.

• United States: Exclusively on ESPN+ PPV. Existing subscribers will need an active ESPN+ subscription alongside the PPV package purchase.
• Australia: Distributed via Kayo Sports and Main Event PPV, where JDM holds massive local fan support.
• United Kingdom: Available via TNT Sports Box Office on television and the discovery+ app.
• International / Rest of World: Streamed live on UFC Fight Pass in select territories, or local official broadcast partners.

Fight fans can access preliminary bouts on standard ESPN channels, UFC Fight Pass, and regional networks prior to the main card broadcast.

Welterweight Stakes and Championship Division Outlook

A bout between Islam Makhachev and Jack Della Maddalena carries massive implications for the UFC's landscape heading into late 2026 and early 2027. Should Makhachev successfully capture or contend for the 170-pound crown, he solidifies his place alongside legendary multi-division champions in combat sports history.

For JDM, a victory over the world's consensus top pound-for-pound fighter would immediately elevate him to global superstardom. It would also lock down his position at the pinnacle of the welterweight division, setting up lucrative future title defenses against top contenders.

Official event location and bout agreements are expected to be formally announced by UFC leadership during upcoming pay-per-view broadcasts in September 2026.
