BREC Upgrades Parks, Expands Safety Measures, and Seeks Lifeguards Ahead of Summer The East Baton Rouge Parish park system is pushing forward with major upgrades, safety improvements, and staffing efforts as summer approaches. BREC officials say one of the most urgent needs right now is hiring lifeguards for Howell Park. BREC maintains over 170 parks that feature a wide variety of quality facilities with family-oriented leisure activities for all ages and population groups. Since BREC superintendent Corey Wilson announced he would not be seeking a contract renewal with the park system, the commission announced its new interim superintendent is set to take office in June.
